Mike Ackerman

Mike Ackerman

Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures

Hometown: currently: High Point, NC; previously: Pickerington, OH

Academic Major: Bachelors & Masters degrees in Outdoor Recreation and Education from Ohio University

Best part of being an OA staff member: Watching our student staff develop their leadership and interpersonal skills; teaching in the most beautiful outdoor locations of North Carolina; providing students the opportunity to get outside, challenge themselves, and learn through adventure.

Favorite OA activity: I love them all for different reasons, but currently I would probably rank sea kayaking at the top. Ask me in a month and it might be something different.

Favorite meal in the field: The classic OA breakfast burrito—egg, hashbrowns, sausage, onion, shredded cheddar, and a splash of Texas Pete all wrapped up in a tortilla shell. Plus, I hate washing dishes and this meal is self-contained.
