Climbing

Eligibility

1. Use of the Edge is FREE to UNCG students and Student Recreation Center members. A valid UNCG ID card is required to climb.
2. Non-members must pay a $5 guest fee at the Student Recreation Center main desk and must be accompanied by a member. Non-member participants must present the guest pass to an Edge staff member before being permitted to climb.
3. Fridays at the Student Recreation Center is family day, thus the $5 guest fee is waived for family members. Non-family guests are required to pay guest fee.
4. The minimum age to climb at The Edge is 8 years and the child must properly fit into a harness.
5. All climbers are required to sign the Assumption of Risk Form each semester. Any climbers under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian sign the Assumption of Risk Form.
6. The minimum age to participate in a belay clinic and be certified to belay is 18.

Personal Climbing Gear and Items

1. No personal belay devices, ropes, carabiners, and other miscellaneous climbing gear permitted.
2. Personal harnesses must be inspected and approved by Edge Staff.
3. Climbing chalk must be kept in a chalk ball within a chalk bag.
4. No food allowed in The Edge. Drinks must be kept in a secure bottle.

Appropriate Clothing

1. Athletic, running, or climbing shoes.
2. No hard-soled boots or sandals.
3. Shirts and shorts or pants are required at all times.
4. No skirts or short-shorts.
5. No jewelry.

Participant Behavior

1. Courteous and safe behavior is required at all times.
2. No abusive or aggressive language or actions.
3. No throwing of any objects.
4. Participants may not use The Edge while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
