Rules and Regulations

  • All rules and regulations are subject to final review by the Competition Director or Head Judge.
  • Any unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the competition.
  • There will be four top rope climbs for each division (beginner, intermediate and advanced) with the most challenging beginner route being the first intermediate, and the most challenging intermediate being the first advanced route.
  • Both men and women in the same division will climb the same routes.
  • If the judges conclude a climber is not in the correct division then they have the right to move the climber to a more appropriate division after discussing this with the climber.
  • Climber must follow all route specific regulations. Failure to do so will result in a penalty equivalent to one attempt.

Competition Scoring

Student keeping score of climbs

Each category competes on routes specifically designed for that skill level. New routes are mapped out and created to provide all categories a fun and exciting challenge.

  • Hold reached in a controlled manner 1 point
  • If a climber finishes a route with no falls on their first try, known as a Flash, then they will receive 2 additional points
  • Each climber may attempt a route three times. While climbing the route, if the climber falls s/he will be required to start the route over from the bottom. After the third attempt the climber is finished competing on that route. The points earned will be totalled based on the highest attained hold. It is the climber's responsibility to remember the highest hold they attained.
  • If a climber goes off route or does not follow a regulation (i.e. using feet in a non-designated area) they will be penalized one attempt. This is at the judge's discretion only.
  • In the place of a tie, at the end of each division time, the climbers will face off on a route designated by the judges. The climber that scores the most points on one attempt will be announced the winner.
