Recreation Center Project
Learn about the project
The UNCG Student Recreation Center (SRC) has experienced significant participation growth in programs and services over the past several years. More students and other SRC members are committing to a healthy lifestyle. While the current recreation center met student needs when it opened in 1992, it has become too small for current demand.
10 year history of recreation participations – the number of times cards were swiped for access to the Student Recreation Center
In keeping with the University’s plans for the future, a new Student Recreation Center will be constructed as part of the Village Development Project on West Lee Street. This area includes the new Spartan Village residence halls and the new UNCG police station. Construction on the Student Recreation Center will begin in 2014, and it should be opened to students for the fall 2016 semester.
The new recreation center will include more space for high-demand activities such as cardiovascular fitness, group fitness, free weights, weight machines, and informal recreation. The center will also provide gathering and event space for student organizations and activities.
